- PHCS was established in Newton, Massachusetts in May 1985 as a limited partnership of mid-sized
commercial insurance companies in an effort to collaborate in the development of competitive
managed care programs
1986
- PHCS Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Hospital Network was developed
1987
- The first regional office opened in Irvine, CA
- PHCS partnership grew to eight general and ten limited partners
1989
- Number of health plan members with access to PHCS Network topped one million
1991
- Number of hospitals in the PHCS Preferred Provider Organization reached 500
- Number of physicians reached 50,000
1992
- PHCS incorporated in January in Delaware
- PHCS hit $65.3 million in revenue
- Company began selling services to a diverse customer base
1993
- PHCS Health Utilization Management services become URAC accredited, with subsequent reaccreditations
every two years
2000
- PHCS Data Integrity program launched
- Corporate Mission, Vision and Values statements restated
- Record profitability, network participation and customer enrollment achieved by PHCS
2001
- Revenue topped $135 million
- PHCS successfully reorganized corporate governance and capital structure
- PHCS received full endorsement from the two most respected quality assurance organizations in the
industry, URAC and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Each organization endorsed
both Network and Utilization Management services, making PHCS the only national PPO with this distinction
2002
- PHCS developed a new approach to care management
- Service Excellence initiative began
2003
- Our unprecedented growth and expansion of market share continues
- PHCS Network grows to 400,000 providers and nearly 3,700 facilities making it the nation's largest, proprietary provider network
- Re-accreditation from URAC marks 10 years of accreditation for Health Utilization Management
- PHCS quality continues to be recognized with re-certification from NCQA
2004
- PHCS acquires both American LIFECARE and Statewide Independent PPO
- PHCS Onsite is introduced
- PHCS Disease Management is introduced
2005
- PHCS celebrates its 20th anniversary
- PHCS achieves re-certification from NCQA for our credentialing and utilization management services
- The PHCS website receives nine web awards from various web design organizations. www.phcs.com site is lauded for its content, ease of use and outstanding design
- PHCS opens four new regional offices in Orlando, Florida; Phoenix, Arizona; St. Louis, Missouri and San Francisco, California
- PHCS successfully resumes operation in its New Orleans office in November, just three months after Hurricane Katrina
